Granite
A hard-wearing option with strong scratch resistance and generally good resistance to everyday food acids. Absorption varies by stone; sealing may help resist stains. Use trivets and cutting boards, and protect edges from impact.
Marble
Softer and more prone to scratching and acid etching. Citrus, wine, and vinegar can dull the finish; sealing helps with staining but does not prevent etching. Honed finishes often make etches less conspicuous. A good choice when an evolving patina is welcome.
Quartzite
True quartzite offers strong scratch resistance and resistance to everyday food acids. Porosity varies, so sealing needs should be checked on the selected slab. Confirm the material’s identity and performance with a sample; trade names can be misleading.
Soapstone
Resists heat, staining, and everyday food acids well. Its softer surface is more likely to scratch or dent, creating a patina. It generally does not require sealing; optional oil or wax changes its appearance.
Travertine
A calcium-based stone that can etch from food acids and show scratches. Its natural pores and any filled areas deserve attention when choosing the application and finish. Discuss sealing, spill care, and the desired level of patina.
Limestone
A calcium-based stone with acid-sensitive surfaces. Scratching and absorption vary with the specific stone. Discuss sealing and finish expectations, and use gentle, non-acidic cleaning products.

Engineered Quartz & Synthetic Solid Surfaces
We also fabricate and install engineered quartz and synthetic solid surfaces, offering a broad range of colors and consistent finishes.
Engineered quartz offers good scratch and stain resistance. Synthetic solid surfaces can often be professionally refinished. Both require protection from hot cookware; care and performance vary by product. We will help you choose the right surface for your project.
